I’m Sorry, but Someone Hates You

Dear Child,

It’s true and I know it hurts, but you have an enemy–someone hates you. His hatred for you is so strong that he will do whatever it takes to destroy you. If he can’t hurt you directly, he will use other people—especially those you love. He will use your family, your friends, your spouse—even your children. He will use sickness and disease. He will use false accusations. He will use violence, slander, anger, murder, jealousy, hatred, and bitterness. He will stop at nothing to demean you and destroy your good name.

I know you’ve worked hard to always do the right thing. I know how important it is that everyone like you—even love you, because you are a great person. I know you are! But you can’t satisfy everyone. You can’t make everyone happy and it isn’t your job to do.

Please don’t let this upset you. Please don’t let your joy be stolen from you. Please don’t lose the peace that is rightfully yours. I’m telling you these things not to hurt you, but to uplift you, encourage you, and to let you know that I still love you and I always will. No matter what people say about you, I know the truth.

Your Mom and Dad love you, too, but they’re not perfect. They’ve made mistakes in their lives that they don’t want you to repeat. That’s why they’re not happy with some of the decisions you’ve made. In return, I know they’ve disappointed you at times, but they still love you and want what’s best for you. I met your parents long ago and I knew what a gift you would be to them. I knew they would treasure you and love you and protect you the best way they could, but parents can’t protect you from everything no matter how much they love you and no matter how hard they try.

You see, I knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. I made plans for you before the years of your life began. I called you to be my child from the very beginning—when I laid the foundations of the earth.

You are chosen and you are special.

You have answered my call and the enemy hates that. He hates so many things you have done because you have done them for me and in my name. When you touch one person’s life, the enemy gets angry. When you exalt my name, the enemy gets angry. When you cry out to me, the enemy gets angry. When you depend on me, the enemy gets angry. When you believe that I will do whatever needs to be done to save you from your circumstances, deserved or undeserved, the enemy gets angry.

The enemy has many ways to hurt you, but I have many more ways to help you.

Someone Hates You

I encourage you to not give up. I am here. I heard your cry and I’ve made a way to deliver you, to save you. I am your rock, your fortress, and your deliverer. I am your strength when you feel weak. You can trust me. I am your shield, your protector, your security, and your place of refuge. I will keep you out of the reach of every enemy. I possess the power to save you and I will rescue you from violence and secure you from danger. I will push, scatter, and destroy those who come against you.

In your distress, you cried out to me. While in my temple, the desperation in your voice reached my ears and pierced my heart. Did you feel the earth tremble? That was my anger, shaking the foundations of the hills on your behalf as I heard of the hurts you suffered, for you are the apple of my eye. Smoke poured from my nostrils and a fire steady, strong, and enduring kindled coals as it spewed from my mouth. I bowed the heavens at the sound of your plea and came down from my mighty throne. I put the darkness under my feet as I rode upon a cherub and flew on the wings of the wind to come to you because you called upon my name—because you needed me. At the sound of my thunderous voice, hailstones, coals of fire, and arrows scattered your enemies. Abundant streaks of lightening vanquished them.

Long ago, I made you a promise and I do not fail on my promises.

Because you called, I came to you and drew you up out of that dark, murky place where your enemies mocked and rebuked you with hatred and bitterness. I cleansed you with my grace and mercy, washing you clean of filth.

Because of your righteousness, because of your devotion to me, your love for me, your trust in me, and because you follow my ways, I saved you. You were made blameless before me because you accepted my son, Jesus Christ, to come into your life and save you from the sins of this world.

With the merciful, I show mercy. With the innocent, I find no guilt. Those who are pure, I recognize their purity. However, with the devious I will use sound judgment. I save those who humble themselves before me, but the arrogant and self-righteous will fall.

I delivered you from evil, from those who hated you and worked hard to destroy you. I lightened your darkness that you may see things clearly. I gave you the ability to see and understand your enemy, not for you to run, but for you to stand and fight. I made you limber and swift and strong enough to bend a bow made of bronze. I made your footing secure and filled you with my spirit, making you confident and bold. Yes, I taught you how to fight and I made you great. When you received my power, all things became possible.

I am the Lord your God and I will continue to avenge you and subdue those who come against you. I will deliver you from your enemies and lift you above them. I will deliver you from the violent man. All these things I promised to David before you and I will continue to hold my promise true for your children and for you.

I am your heavenly father, the Lord and ruler of all, who loves you more than you can ever imagine.

P.S. Read Psalms 18 to remind yourself of how much I love you and will fight for you.
