Does Depression Win? I Hope Not!

Does depression win?  I hope not!  I hate this title, but I can’t get away from it.

Many people will say yes—when someone takes his life, depression wins.

I am questioning many things the church taught me. A big teaching I am questioning is this: when someone commits suicide, they go straight to Hell. How can we, even with all our theology, be sure of that?

In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, the Bible says that the “unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.” It also states that “fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. ” I hate to inform the religious people in this world, but we’ve all hit one of these categories at one point or another–even after we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior.

Did Depression Win?

You Are Already Missed!

What is the kingdom of God? Romans 14:7 tells us that the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy.

Please do not confuse this with the Kingdom of Heaven. The Kingdom of God is how we are meant to live on earth every day. The Kingdom of God is for the here and now, not the later and greater.

I don’t have all the answers. To be honest, I have more questions than answers, but I know the Lord is still working on my heart. I have a few mindsets to change, as do many Christians in this world. He is not finished with me yet!

However, I am reminded every day that God’s love knows no boundaries. His love for us is bigger and stronger than we can ever imagine.

What many people are asking or wondering about is this: is our beloved and talented Robin Williams in Heaven celebrating today? I sure hope so! As one twitterer tweeted, “Now he makes God laugh.”

We never know what happens in those last moments of death—even suicide.

One can call out to God at any moment and be saved, as Romans 10:13 tells us. God doesn’t have a list of reasons that state when someone is allowed to call out for Him, nor does He draw a line in our path telling us that we’ve screwed up too much and now He won’t hear us anymore. I believe God hears us at any moment—even the last seconds of our life.

For those who believe or say, “absolutely not,” when considering this man’s resting place being Heaven, I don’t know that anyone other than God can be sure of that.

Robin Williams gave an interview with “Inside the Actors Studio.” When asked about Heaven in an interview, he said, “to know that there’s laughter.” (CNN 2014) I do know this: there is laughter in Heaven and my hope is that Mr. Williams is there to spread even more laughter.

If you are fighting depression or struggling with your life, cry out to Jesus today. Don’t wait another moment. Don’t let depression rob you of living a life of joy while you are here on earth. Get the help you need. I’m sure that Robin Williams wouldn’t want one person to suffer with the struggles he endured.

May foundations be made in his name to assist others and give them hope. May this sad situation be a wake-up call to those who are struggling with the same challenges as this talented and loved man faced. May people come forth and get treated and healed. May those who knew him and adored him be comforted.

And may we be the conquerors the Lord designed us to be.
